Future Research in to E-Cigarettes

As we have said a number of times in previous articles on this website, a lot of research is needed in the future to establish the absolute safety of E-Cigarettes - especially newer versions in which the cartridge device contains nicotine.

So, we thought we would do our own lot of research to establish exactly what the state of the E-Cigarette research market is at the moment, and where new research is heading in the future. Will we have a definitive answer to the "E-Cigarette smoke" debate in due course, or will it be a number of years before we get an accurate picture as to the genuine safety of nicotine based E-Cigarette smoke?

Upcoming E-Cigarette Research

We recently found out that there are a number of studies in to E-Cigarettes which are planned for the coming months and years.

We got in touch with the companies and organizations which are set to run these studies, to ask them exactly what it was that they were hoping to find from the research. Their answers were clear:

  • Are E-Cigarettes safe for general use?
  • Do E-Cigarettes make a healthy or useful supplement to real tobacco products?
  • Can E-Cigarettes help to reduce the dependence on Nicotine?
  • Does E-Cigarette use need to be regulated by the government?

We believe that if the above questions can be answered properly, and the answers can be backed up by true scientific research, the definitive answers will go a long way to either helping the E-Cigarette industry - or refuting their long standing promise that E-Cigarettes are better for us than the products which they are meant to replace.

How the E-Cigarette Studies Will Be Done?

There are two proposed methods of studying the effects of E-Cigarettes in the general population. They are:

  • Retrospective studies.
  • Clinical trials.

In a retrospective study, the opinions of people who have given up tobacco products in favour of E-Cigarettes are taken in to account and an overall consensus is taken as to the views, effects, and benefits of the E-Cigarettes to those users.

In the clinical trial however, E-Cigarettes would be given to people who have never smoked before in their life, as well as people who have smoked tobacco products for a number of years, and the results would then be measured on a set scale.
